Chess Scotland School’s Championships 2025

The event attracted 8 teams of 4 players (6 secondary teams and 2 primary teams) Preston Lodge HS was the only school to enter 2 teams. 

A slight change to the format was agreed beforehand, with the teams merged together into one section and playing a 7 round (all play all) tournament. Although team numbers were down from last year the quality of play was exceptionally high, with more than a handful of Scottish international players taking part.

Primary School Champions: Hillhead PS, Glasgow

Secondary School Champions: ESMS

Preston Lodge HS (A) Team did particularly well, with Alex Taylor playing on Board 4 scoring 5 wins out of 6 games.

Chess Scotland hopes very much that this event will help in promoting chess in Prestonpans and across East Lothian. Perhaps more teams will be encouraged to participate next year.

Thanks goes to Head teacher Mr Clark for his opening remarks, Julie Lowe and Andrew Green for assisting with arrangements and teams, the Janitorial staff for keeping everyone safe and to parents of the PL School Pipe Band Association who provided a tuck shop.
