Last weekend the Maths department had the privilege of taking a group of 40 senior pupils away for an overnight stay in Innerwick.
The pupils who attended are currently studying either National 5 or Higher Mathematics, and we spent the two days helping them to successfully start their revision for final exams in May. Two Advanced Higher maths pupils also joined us (Becky Cargill and Eve Royall) to help deliver two National 5 workshops on the Friday. They were an excellent help and we really appreciate them giving up their Friday afternoon to support the National 5 pupils! Mrs Hewitt also kindly joined us, taking a break from her retirement to deliver some workshops on the Saturday morning. The weekend was a massive success, with a varied programme of events. The main focus was on maths study workshops, where pupils could sign up for topics they wanted extra support with.
In addition to this the pupils got the chance to take part in a Maths Escape Room, where they had to find the combination to a padlock by completing mixed past paper questions as a group in order to unlock some exciting prizes up for grabs. On Friday there was a quiz and some group challenges (you’ll notice some unusual attire in the pictures!) ending with a giant Nerf gun war before bed time! The pupils were extremely hard working and lots of fun over the weekend. They all appreciated being given a choice of topics to focus on, and the smaller groups in the workshops which allowed them to get more help with areas they were finding difficult. We would just like to thank all the pupils who came along and made it so enjoyable (and all the families that encouraged them to go!). I would also like to thank all the staff that helped make the weekend a success and gave up their time to do so!
Particular thanks go to the Preston Lodge Learning Foundation who, among others, helped to fully fund this weekend so we could offer it to all pupils free of charge. I’m already excited about next year’s camp – watch this space!
